Have You Lost Your MLM Mojo?

Ricky is typical of anyone who has ventured into a direct marketing opportunity.  Just like the majority of us, he was looking for a way to bring some more money into his household.  His day job was barely paying the bills and he needed a new way to earn additional income.  Then along came Charlie.  Charlie went to high school with Ricky and the word on the street was that Charlie had made it big in the MLM industry.  Charlie had already been successful in three different MLM businesses.  One day over a cup of coffee, Charlie convinced Ricky that his fortunes awaited him in Charlie's latest MLM opportunity.  Ricky was very excited and because Charlie had his laptop with him, Ricky signed up on the spot!  "What do I do next?" asked Ricky.  Charlie told him to get busy learning the system and get busy making his list of potential contacts.  Ricky poured himself into the process.  He learned the system front to back.  He became very familiar with the products, the services and the compensation plan.  For a solid week, he composed his list of potential contacts and in only ten days, he felt he was ready to begin marketing his business.  The company had an upcoming meeting scheduled and Ricky invited 12 people from his list to join him on a Wednesday night.  Wednesday night came and Ricky was waiting at the door for his participants.  Only Martha showed up, and she was twenty minutes late and missed the discussion on the products and the compensation plan.  Martha did not join.  Future scheduled meetings resulted in only one person who was interested.  
Ricky wasn't discouraged.  He had over 150 people on his list and he began setting appointments with several of these people over the next few months.  He got one more person into the business and he got a call from Charlie congratulating him on his success.  He needed three people in his top line in order to reap all of the compensation benefits, so he begged his sister to join as well.  She did.  Hot diggity!  Ricky had his MLM Mojo working now and the sky was the limit, or so he thought.
Fast forward three months and Ricky had three people in his top line and one more had signed up as well.  Four months of work generated four distributors.  There wasn't much chance of creating a substantial income at that rate.  Ricky got busy.  He called every single person on his list, some for a second and third time.  He didn't have much luck.  He put out fliers.  He printed up business cards.  He began leaving marketing materials everywhere and talking to complete strangers about his business.  Six months in, the same four people were all he had.  He went back to Charlie.  He asked, "How did you get so many people into your business?"  Since Ricky and Charlie were such close friends, he didn't mind telling him that the majority of his downline had followed him from his previous business.  It had taken years in his first business to build up this group of people and they had been following his lead ever since.  Ricky was understandably disappointed, yet Charlie, who hadn't been in Ricky's shoes for a long time didn't understand why?  After that revelation, Ricky simply lost his MLM Mojo, and he wasn't sure he'd ever find it again.
What did Ricky do wrong?  Nothing, really.  He simply following the instructions of his business mentor.  Unfortunately, the steps that were suggested to him were the same old tired steps that have been suggested by most direct marketers for over thirty years.  Ricky had a decision to make.  He could get out of the business and cancel his monthly fees, or he could try to find a better way on his own.  He got on the internet and researched how to generate leads for his business.  He found that you could buy leads, but that would just cost more money and he already had enough going out.  He needed money coming in.  And then it happened.  It was a pivotal moment for Ricky.  He discovered a way to generate quality leads for his business free of charge.  The program that he discovered helps people worldwide to generate upwards of 50 leads per day.  In addition, Ricky discovered that he didn't have to chase these leads all over town; these leads came to him already interested in what he had to offer.  And finally, Ricky realized with this program that he could make money off of many of his leads regardless of whether they decided to sign up in his primary MLM business.  Ricky regained his MLM Mojo.  He reached a level of success that generated a lot of buzz in his organization.  Ricky tore up his original list of prospects and focused solely on leads that were being generated by him through this program.  Ricky became a success story in the MLM industry.
